Wound healing: The power of the purse string
نویسنده
چکیده
Recently, Xenopus oocytes have been shown to repair wounds using a contractile system composed of actin and myosin-II. The work underscores the importance of actin-based myosin-II contractility in cellular and supracellular 'purse strings' that function in diverse biological processes.

Wound-induced assembly and closure of an actomyosin purse string in Xenopus oocytes
BACKGROUND Both single cells and multicellular systems rapidly heal physical insults but are thought to do so by distinctly different mechanisms. Wounds in single cells heal by calcium-dependent membrane fusion, whereas multicellular wounds heal by a variety of different mechanisms, including circumferential contraction of an actomyosin 'purse string' that assembles around wound borders and is ...
متن کاملHealing of incisional wounds in the embryonic chick wing bud: characterization of the actin purse-string and demonstration of a requirement for Rho activation
Small skin wounds in the chick embryo do not heal by lamellipodial crawling of cells at the wound edge as a skin wound does in the adult, but rather by contraction of an actin purse-string that rapidly assembles in the front row of epidermal cells (Martin, P., and J. Lewis. 1992. Nature (Lond.). 360:179-183). To observe the early time course of actin purse-string assembly and to characterize ot...
متن کاملClosure of round cutaneous defects progressively with the purse string suture technique
INTRODUCTION There are many closure techniques available to cutaneous surgeons. One of them is the purse-string suture which is used to provide complete or partial closure of round skin defects. In our animal study; we closed skin defects with using subcuticular purse string suture technique by progressively cinching wound and we aim to more rapidly healing according to secondary healing. MET...
متن کاملEffect of a Purse-String Approximation Following Stoma Takedown on Wound Infection and Satisfaction
A temporary stoma is commonly used following rectal cancer surgery because a stoma has been reported to lower the clinical leak rate and the reoperation rate [1]. The use of a temporary stoma has been increasing due to the introduction and increased use of preoperative chemoradiotherapy (PCRT) in the era of rectal cancer surgery because PCRT was expected to facilitate sphincter preservation in ...
متن کاملWounded cells drive rapid epidermal repair in the early Drosophila embryo
Epithelial tissues are protective barriers that display a remarkable ability to repair wounds. Wound repair is often associated with an accumulation of actin and nonmuscle myosin II around the wound, forming a purse string. The role of actomyosin networks in generating mechanical force during wound repair is not well understood. Here we investigate the mechanisms of force generation during woun...
